Linell Chewins

Dr Linell Chewins is a research associate with the University of the Witwatersrand. She is interested in
trade along the southeast coast of Africa during the 18th and early 19th centuries. Linell
is particularly interested in how trade changes social and political relationships within and between
societies. In following these interests, she has published in the Journal of Southern African Studies,
South African Historical Journal, and Journal of African History. Her other topic of interest is the
history of the Indian Ocean maritime trade and how it relates to this part of the African
coast.
