Leonor Calvo Galván es Catedrática de Ecología de la Universidad de León y su investigación se centra en el análisis de los efectos de las perturbaciones, fundamentalmente los incendios forestales, sobre la estructura y el funcionamiento de los ecosistemas terrestres, principalmente forestales, tanto a escala de comunidad como de paisaje. Los resultados de su investigación han permitido definir las bases ecológicas para la gestión de los ecosistemas forestales a nivel local, regional, nacional e internacional en el marco del cambio global.
Posee más de 90 artículos publicados en revistas indexadas además de 2 libros, 27 capítulos en libros, y 44 publicaciones en actas de congresos con censores. Toda su investigación se ha subvencionado por la participación continuada en más de 43 proyectos de convocatoria pública, bien con investigadora principal o como miembro del equipo. Destacar su participación en proyectos internacionales subvencionados por la Comisión Europea como “external expert” en el proyecto RUBICODE “Rationalising biodiversity conservation for ecosystem service provision in a changing World”, en la COST ACTION FP0701 “Post fires Forest management in southern Europe” y en la COST ACTION CA18135 “Fire in the Earth System: Science and Society” FIRELinks. Dirige la Unidad de Investigación Consolidada UIC 210 de la Junta de Castilla y León desde 2016 hasta la actualidad, y el grupo de Investigación Ecología Aplicada y Teledetección “GEAT” de la Universidad de León desde 2017.
