Leonie Kirszenblat

  • Postdoctoral research fellow, RIKEN

Dr Leonie Kirszenblat is a neuroscientist investigating sleep. She uses the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, as a genetic model to understand fundamental processes that occur in the brain during sleep, and how sleep affects behaviour. She is also interested in the evolution of sleep functions and how this relates to brain complexity in different animals.

Leonie currently works at the RIKEN Center for Brain Science, Japan, where she combines state-of-art techniques in brain imaging, behavioural analyses and machine-learning to decode how the brain operates differently during sleep.
