Leila moved from human neuroscience to artificial neural networks - she has studied intelligent computing systems and is interested in applying intelligent analysis methodologies and data mining to various data sources, particularly in medical informatics and e-health settings. She has taught introductory image processing and machine learning methods at MSc level.
She worked for several years as an analyst and medical writer/editor, covering diverse topics for medical education and pharmaceutical industry projects. More recently, she reviewed image-based computer-aided diagnosis systems for the diagnosis of cancer and concluded that they can be beneficial in the right applications.
