Dr. Lee Brown is a Senior Lecturer at a London based University and serves as the Tactical Lead Researcher working with Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Brown is currently involved in performance-led research aimed at improving the health, readiness, and sustainability of modern firefighters. His academic and applied work integrates high-level conditioning, injury resilience, and recovery strategies tailored to occupational demands. He holds the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®), Certified Specialist Populations Specialist® (CSPS®), Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator® (TSAC-F®), and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach® (RSCC®).

After completion of my PhD by publication on strength and conditioning for Muay Thai, my current research now focuses on improving firefighter performance and reducing injury risk through applied physiology. I am investigating the use of reactive strength index and wider jump assessments to identify performance profiles and resilience markers. I am also working on photo bio modulation to support sleep and recovery, exploring collagen supplements for musculoskeletal health, and developing functional work-based fitness tests that reflect real fireground tasks. A major strand of this work centres on female firefighters, where I am running studies to optimise performance and lower injury risk with a more personalised and cycle aware approach.

I am currently leading research teams in collaboration with practitioners from the NSCA and working closely with fire services around the world.
