Leah Gilman

Leah Gilman is Research Fellow in the Department of Sociology at Manchester Metropolitan University where she leads the Digital Donor Conception research study which explores practices of informal donor conception. Her work explores how people understand and negotiate the relationships created through assisted conception, particularly in the context of cultural, legal and technological change. Her research has been published in both sociological and biomedical peer-reviewed journals and her 2022 article on sperm donors’ motivations won the SAGE (Sociology) Prize for Innovation and Excellence. She is also the co-author of the book Donors: Curious Connections in Donor Conception, published with Emerald in 2022, and numerous resources designed to support and inform fertility practitioners, policymakers and people impacted by donor conception.
