- PhD Candidate, Public Participatory Contemporary Art, University of Leeds
I am a multimedia 3D artist based in North Yorkshire, currently undertaking a practice based PhD at the School of Fine Art, Art History and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds.
I specialise in ceramics and site specific installations, responding to places and collections of objects often creating participatory works when exploring these narratives. I have worked with collections within the National Trust and independent museums, collaborated with community groups and created permanent sculpture for Forestry England. My most recent work on the High Street Heritage Action Zone in Middlesbrough explored and responded to the changing industries and the effects on philanthropy and community in the town.
I am researching how participatory contemporary art may affect visitor engagement with heritage narratives, and how any effect can be measured and evaluated. I’m currently particularly interested in how the act of participation itself can be used as an evaluative tool, and unexpected and evolving outcomes resulting from participation, as these are issues which have arisen within my own practice. I will be working with the team and collection at National Trust property Hardwick House, creating art works to investigate these themes.
