Lauri Parr is an award-winning participatory artist, researcher, and youth specialist. She is an appointed Academic at Curtin University and a 2025 Creative Leadership Fellow at the highly prestigious Forrest Research Foundation. Lauri holds a first-class Human Rights LLM, in which her research focused on visual knowledge production in relation to international law. Trained in visual arts, graphic design and facilitation; she is interested in how, where and why photographs and stories are shared and understood. Her practice is an ongoing exploration of voice, strength, power, and systems - using collaborative and creative methods– to share stories, celebrate perspectives, consider meanings and co-design new things. Suspicious of the assumption adults know best, she works predominately with children and those who support them.
Specialist in ethical image production, she trains and creates frameworks for leading NGOs and universities worldwide. Her portfolio spans 14 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and Oceania; and includes young people who are homeless (2014- 2019); sex workers, people who use drugs and LGBTQIA+ community members (2019); children in conflict zones (2020); child victims and perpetrators of sexual violence (2022); young women (2023), and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children (current).
