Lars Arendt-Nielsen

His interdisciplinary, internationally recognized translational and clinical pain and itch research unit has been developed over the last 40 years. The research focuses are: 1) translational pain and itch research; 2) human biomarkers for the clinical assessment of pain and itch; 3) proof-of-concept and target validation studies of patients related outcomes in relation to mechanistic pain and itch biomarkers.
Is founder of a large research group in the field of interdisciplinary translational experimental and clinical pain and itch research.
He has published 1,407 peer reviewed journal papers (sum of times cited 54,144, average citations per item 38.48, H-index 109, Web of Science) within pain and itch neurobiology, clinical and experimental pain and itch assessment, genetics, epigenetics, proteomics, pain and itch management, musculoskeletal and visceral pain, dermatological and neurological pain and itch conditions, bio-markers, and profiling of analgesics and inti-pruritic compounds. Has supervised and completed more than 70 Ph.D. students and given more than 400 lectures at international scientific conferences.
Been guest professor in Japan, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, and USA.
Received more than 20 national and international honors and awards. Been knighted by the Danish Queen. Has served on the council of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), President-Elect of IASP 2016, IASP president from 2018-2020, and immediate past-president from 2020-2022.
