- Senior Lecturer in Motor Learning and Skill Acquisition, Western Sydney University
Dr. Kylie Steel is a senior academic in skill acquisition and human performance. Her research examines the factors that influence how we learn and perform the movement and perceptual-cognitive skills required in sport, play, and movement-related professions (including the military, performance arts, and isolated environmental contexts). As a published author who has helped define the role of skill acquisition specialists, her work emphasizes applying scientific principles to bridge the gap between theory and practical application for athletes and coaches. Kylie is particularly interested in the connection between visual information and decision-making, the role of risky play in motor skill and creative movement development, and the many factors that influence the development and performance of women and girls across all abilities, cultures, and sports. Dr. Steel has presented her research both nationally and internationally and has published numerous papers in these areas.
