Kitty Stewart

(She/her)

Professor Stewart's research interests include child poverty and disadvantage, early years policy, and international comparisons of policy and outcomes relating to poverty and inequality. Recent projects include a four year mixed methods study of the impact of the two-child limit and the benefit cap on larger families in the UK, funded by the Nuffield Foundation. She has also conducted recent research examining the effect of early years policy changes on inequalities in access to high quality early education and care. Current work includes an analysis of the impact of the Scottish Child Payment, funded by the Aberdeen Financial Fairness Trust, and an investigation of the factors associated with the fall and rise of inequalities in low birthweight in England.

Professor Stewart has a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute, Florence. After finishing her PhD she spent two years at the UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre in Florence before joining LSE in 2001. She is now Professor of Social Policy and Associate Director of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Exclusion (CASE).
