My PhD was on the ontology of the Islamic caliphate - what is or was it, and how is it influential still? My main field of theoretical interest currently is an attempt to describe the nature of the thing that fights a war. This encompasses a range of disciplines and a very broad historical and world-level focus. It also opens up the possibility of identifying, pedicting and perhaps restraining these things.
