- Principal Research Scientist, Australian Institute of Marine Science
I'm a marine biologist with a keen interest in helping the world's coral reefs survive global change. I have worked on coral reefs since 1994 when I first came to Australia as a student. The Great Barrier Reef was spectacular then, and I fell in love. I have since seen the Reef decline decade by decade - impacted by pollution, Crown-of-Thorns Starfish, intense cyclones, and now climate change. I have made it my mission to understand how science can help stem the Reef's decline further. And I believe we can with a smart combination of conventional management and new ways that involve science innovation, emerging technologies, and people empowered to engage in reef conservation.
