My research focuses on children's mathematics learning in K-12 and informal settings. I have received funding from the Institute of Education Sciences (U.S. Dept. of Ed), National Science Foundation (U.S.), National Institutes of Health (U.S.), Spencer Foundation, and the Heising-Simons Foundation. I have held tenured faculty positions at Indiana University, Michigan State University, and the University of Maryland. In addition to teaching and conducting research, I have served as department chairperson, program director, and associate dean.
