- PhD Candidate, Andy Thomas Centre for Space Resources, Adelaide University
Kato Claeys has a background in architectural engineering and space studies and is currently pursuing a joint PhD at Adelaide University (Australia) and the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom). Her research investigates vertical human locomotion in reduced-gravity environments, with a particular focus on the role of the upper body. By examining how humans navigate extraterrestrial settings, her work aims to inform the design of future space habitats while also generating insights applicable to mobility and accessibility challenges faced by older adults on Earth. Prior to her doctoral research, Kato gained hands-on experience through participation in several analog space missions.
