Katie is Emerita Professor of Work and Employment at King's College London and Professor of Leadership and HRM at Northumbria University. Previously, she held several roles at the Universities of Sussex, Kent and Kingston, and London Business School. She has a PhD from London Business School.

Her research focuses on meaningful work, organisational purpose, employee engagement and managing people. She has won several international awards for her research, which has been published extensively in books, scholarly journals and practitioner outlets such as the Harvard Business Review. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and a lay member of the Qualifications Board of the ACCA. She has held a number of other roles, including Non-Executive Director of the Involvement and Participation Association and Honorary Fellow at the Institute for Employment Studies.

She has led large research projects funded by industry, the CIPD, the ESRC, BA/Leverhulme and the NIHR and has held a number of editorial roles with scholarly journals. She is also a Member of the Association for Coaching.
