- Professor, Geology, Adelaide University
I study the movement and deposition of sediment (grains of sand and mud). I am interested in learning more about how these processes shape different landscapes, from deserts to the deep sea floor. Some of my research is focused on modern environments, but something I am very interested in is the reconstruction of ancient environments - how the Earth's surface has changed over hundreds of millions of years. This isn't always as easy as it sounds. Some of the research methods I've used include the study of modern settings, running experimental physical models and computer models to simulate natural processes, and the study of ancient sedimentary rocks.
