Katherine Woolf

(She/her)
  • Professor of Medical Education Research, UCL

I am Professor of Medical Education Research, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I also hold a Visiting Professorship at King's College London, and an honorary position in Psychology at UCL. In 2022-2024 I was a Parliamentary Academic Fellow in the UK Parliament funded by the UK Government via the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). From 2018-2022 I held an NHIR Career Development Fellowship in Medical Education.

A strong belief in equality and fairness underpins all my work to understand and address inequalities within the healthcare workforce and thus improve patient outcomes. My specific areas of expertise include mixed-methods research on race equality in the medical workforce, improving access to medical school for under-represented groups, and the health and wellbeing of healthcare workers from migrant and minoritised groups.

My background is in psychology and education, with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from Goldsmith's College and a PhD in Medical Education and Psychology from UCL. I was UCL's Public Engager of the Year (academic) and gave the British Science Association's Charles Darwin Award Lecture.
