- PhD Candidate, Royal Holloway, University of London
Katherine is a postgraduate research student whose work focuses on mapping vernacular geographies in places of super-diversity. Her PhD explores how, in the context of ‘super-diversity’ and multicultural London, the ‘vernacular geographies’ of different people represent both cultural complexity and shared spaces of encounter and civic culture. Drawing on wider arguments for the ‘thrown-togetherness’ of place, the project is interested in how contemporary cartographic and geographic information can map places as constellations of trajectories.
Katherine’s research is funded by a CASE Award; a +3 Studentship from the Economic and Social Research Council’s (ESRC) South East Doctoral Training Centre and Ordnance Survey
