- Professor and Dean of School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, RMIT University
I am currently Dean of School of Global, Urban and Social Studies at RMIT University, Melbourne. Before joining RMIT I was at the University of Brighton for 16 years where I led the development of psychology and was Founding Director of the Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender and established the Creative Methods Lab.
My academic background is in community psychology, gender and sexuality studies. I've worked in the UK, Australia and internationally on projects related to LGBTIQA+ mental health, transgender health and wellbeing, and suicide prevention. I also have expertise in the use of creative and visual research methods in community and participatory action research. I am author/co-author of Community Psychology and the socio-economics of mental distress (2012, Palgrave), Sexuality: A Psychosocial Manifesto (2015, Polity Press), Queer Faith Matters (forthcoming, Palgrave) and numerous papers and chapters including more recently on place-based and nature-based interventions for community wellbeing.
