Katherine Davey

(She/her)

I am a Research Fellow, based in the School of Education at Manchester Metropolitan University, with an interest in how social inequalities affect education and employment transitions.

I have spent the past three years working on a national longitudinal project, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, examining interventions that support young people 'at risk' of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). I have recently commenced a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship, focused on how inequalities emerge for academically successful working-class women within the graduate labour market.

I obtained my Doctorate in Education from the University of Huddersfield in 2022. My thesis explored the educational decision making of high-achieving, working-class girls as they applied to high-tariff universities.

I a qualified teacher (PGCE, QTS). My research draws on my extensive professional experience in teaching and leadership roles in the secondary, further and higher education sectors.
