- Associate Professor, History, University of Waterloo
Katherine Bruce-Lockhart is an Associate Professor in History at the University of Waterloo and a faculty member at the Balsillie School of International Affairs.
Her research critically examines the legacies of colonial carceral institutions, particularly prisons. Katherine's work historicizes the ways in which the prison became a global institution, linking this to wider discussions about decolonization and prison abolition.
Katherine previously held a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Toronto-Mississauga and the Jackman Humanities Institute. She completed her PhD in History at the University of Cambridge.
She is also actively involved in community grassroots organizations advocating for prisoners' rights, abolition, and anti-racism.
