Macrophages are a white blood cell that can take on many roles in the immune system. Different types of macrophages are associated with illnesses from heart disease to sepsis. I use techniques including bioinformatics to study how different types of macrophages, including a sepsis-associated type, respond to Salmonella infection. My work also touches on use of stem cell derived macrophages as a research tool.
