Kate is a veterinarian and transdisciplinary researcher whose work spans the intersection of science education, innovation and design. Kate graduated with a BVSc in 2004 (1999-2003) during which she completed the Summer Scholar Graduate Science Program (2002) at the Australian National University, John Curtin medical school, and the Leadership Program for Veterinary Students 2003 in Cornell. She worked in small animal practice from 2004 to 2010, during which time she completed a PhD in Ovarian Cancer Research (UNSW and Garvan Institute of Medical Research). During her PhD she discovered her passion and skill in science communication, specialising in illustration and animation. Kate is a registered biomedical illustrator (Australian Institute of Medical and Biological Illustration) and in 2021 she completed an MPhil in media arts (UNSW, Faculty of Arts Design and Architecture). Kate has a deep commitment to education and science communication and loves to explore ways to use digital media to make complex concepts more accessible, engaging, and effective in both education and healthcare settings.
