Kate Maclean is Professor of Feminist Geography at UCL's Bartlett School of Planning. Her research focuses on urban governance, political leadership, and finance, particularly in Latin America. She has written extensively on mayoral leadership, urban violence and social urbanism, with a particular focus on Colombia.

She is the author of Social Urbanism and the Politics of Violence: The Medellín Miracle and has published widely on cities, governance, gender and development. Her work has appeared in journals including Political Geography and Urban Studies and she is Editor-in-Chief of Gender, Place & Culture and co-editor of the Journal of Latin American Studies.
