I'm a Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Bristol and creator of Dear Maestro (dearmaestro.org), a podcast exploring untold stories of classical music fandom.

My research explores why people value music, and how the values attributed to it intersect with broader debates in cultural, political and social life.

I am the author of The Art of Appreciation: Music and Middlebrow Culture in Modern Britain (University of California Press, 2021) and "Bernstein's Fans" (Journal of the American Musicological Society, 79:3, 2026), among other things.

I hold a PhD from King's College London, and an MPhil and BA(Hons) from the University of Cambridge.
