- Senior Lecturer in Spanish, Manchester Metropolitan University
Karl Mclaughlin is a senior lecturer in Spanish and, since 1988, a professional interpreter and translator. He is also a journalist specialising in Spain, including Spanish politics and sport.
His academic research focuses on a wide range of areas relating to interpreting and translation, and Golden Age literature (particularly female authors and Extremadura). He is currently working on literary academies in 17th century Spain. He is particularly interested in the use of interpreting in legal settings and the quality issues that arise in such contexts. A further area of interest is the manipulation of sport, especially football, for political ends in contemporary Spain.
