Karina Pavlisa is a lecturer and scholar at the University of Bristol Business School. My scholarship is at the intersection of economic sociology and management, with a particular focus on how professional groups and broader social structures shape business practices and inequalities. Using large-scale national databases as an accredited researcher with the Office for National Statistics and drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical lens throughout in my work, I explored consumption and saving behaviours among professional groups to investigate the patterns of signalling and accumulation and reveal the between-group distinctions. More recently, I am interested in wider applications of Bourdieu’s theories in the context of professional fields and the ways in which social structures and forms of capital influence stakeholder relationships.
