Karen Slade is a Professor of applied forensic psychology at NTU and also on secondment to HMPPS as Strategic Lead for Deaths under Probation Supervision.
Karen has practiced in the area of Forensic Psychology for over 20 years; working for the HM Prison Service from 1999-2011. She has full membership of the Division of Forensic Psychology and Chartership with the BPS and is registered with the HCPC as a Forensic Psychologist. Karen is highly active in working with a wide range of agencies connected to the criminal justice system in the prevention of self-harm, suicide and violent behaviour and related to preventable deaths.
Karen's current research areas include: the emerging area of dual harm (those who are violent and self-harm in prison) self-harm, suicide and violence risk in offending populations across the spectrum of the CJS; the impact on prison staff of working in difficult environments; with a particular expertise in developming new and effective organisational approaches to suicide and violence prevention
