- PhD candidate, University of Technology Sydney
Ka Hang Wong completed his PhD at the University of Technology Sydney in 2026. His thesis provides a historical analysis of BN(O) status and how it evolved from being a token of British nationality into a tool of political resistance against a totalitarian Party-state’s assault on Hong Kong's identity. Drawing on the Tibetan historical experience, the thesis suggests that the British government could address its unfulfilled promise of universal suffrage for Hongkongers by supporting an elected parliament-in-exile and granting land as a self-governing Crown Dependency. The thesis argues that establishing a parallel Hong Kong on British soil could draw capital and talent by reinstating non-interventionist governance, thereby generating economic strength and shaping a post-CCP future within the framework of British sovereignty.
Ka Hang is an English language educator and researcher with over a decade of experience teaching English for Academic Purposes and IELTS across Australia and China. He has published research on Hong Kong, focusing on postcolonial linguistics, pragmatics, and English language teaching.
