- Lecturer in Social Work, The Open University
I am a social worker by training and come from a practice background working with children and young people in alternative care. I have worked in local authority and non-profit fostering and adoption teams in the United Kingdom and have experience of managing a secure unit that accommodated young people in contact with the law.
I also have experience working in an international care reform charity as the Director of Programmes and then the Chief Executive Officer. I had responsibility for nonprofit fostering services in Australia, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand as well as charitable projects supporting care reform in a number of countries, including Thailand, Madagascar, Indonesia, Croatia, Greece, and Poland.
I previously held the post of Assistant Professor in Social Work at the University of Bath and I maintain an affiliation as a visiting fellow at the Centre for the Analysis of Social Policy. I am currently working at The Open University as a social work academic and I am affiliated to the Centre for the Study of Global Development. My research interests focus on child protection and care reform. I am committed to understanding children and young people’s experiences of alternative care and promoting their voices to inform policy and practice.
