- Professor of Analytical Chemistry, UMass Amherst
I worked for 13 years as a faculty member at Loughborough University in the UK before joining UMass Amherst in 1989. I have directed a research program concerned with the development of new methods of chemical measurement of compounds containing potential harmful elements, such as arsenic and mercury, in which over 50 doctoral students and about 100 undergraduates have participated. I know a lot about the distribution and determination of arsenic compounds in foods and beverages. I teach across the curriculum from CHEM 101 to CHEM 892, and I am the co-author of a book about writing in chemistry.
