Julian Clark is Reader in Political Geography at the University of Birmingham. His research focuses on diplomacy, geopolitics and environmental governance, with particular interests in how states build trust, exercise power and manage complex environmental challenges. He has served as a specialist adviser to the UK House of Lords European Union Committee and as an adviser to the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST), and is currently a Leverhulme Research Fellow leading a major project on trust, diplomacy and the UK's international relationships after Brexit. Educated at Oxford University and UCL, he has written four books and 80 peer-reviewed papers. He has delivered invited research talks to audiences in Australia, the United States, Germany, France, Sweden and Nepal on diplomacy, statecraft and governance.
