Julia M. Wright

(she/her)

I am the author or editor of sixteen books. Much of my work involves gender and nationalism in British and Irish literature from 1780-1850; I'm especially interested in how literature provided a forum for debating various social issues, and the role of medical ideas and oceans in those debates, work extended into co-authored articles in The Lancet and BMC Medicine. I have extended my work on gender and the nation into television studies, including an essay on state-formation in Deadwood and a book on masculinity and the gothic in recent US television. I have also published on university issues, including research policy: these publications have appeared in the MLA journal Profession, University Affairs, Inside Higher Ed, the Globe and Mail, The Hill Times, and so on.
