Julia Håkansson

Julia Håkansson is a historian and museologist. She defended her thesis in History and History Didactics with the dissertation History and Nationalism: The Historical Narratives of the Sweden Democrats and the Danish People's Party 2023. The thesis was awarded the Thesis of the Year award at Malmö University the same year.

Her postdoc project in museology is about how the Holocaust and World War II are depicted in museums in Scandinavia, as well as how visitors react to different exhibition elements in museum exhibitions about the Holocaust. The project is funded by the Nordenstedt Foundation and Håkansson also conducts her research at Kulturen in Lund.

Simultenously, she is conducting a research project on how the history of the Scanian landscapes is portrayed in contemporary Swedish and Danish historical culture, funded by the Ebbe Kock Foundation.

Her research interest concerns the relationships between historical narratives, historical culture, and national identity and nationalism. Håkansson has practical experience from both the public, private and non-profit museum sectors.

Håkansson is the editor of Ale: Historisk tidskrift för Skånes, Hallands och Blekinges historia, as well as of the History Teachers' Association's Annual Publication.
