Julia Dane

Dr Julia Dane is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Arts and Creative Industries at the University of East London. Julia teaches Media and Advertising with a focus on gender, celebrity and influencer marketing, fandom and parasocial relationships. She has a longstanding interest in representations of femininity, with her postgraduate research interrogating young girls’ engagement and negotiations of post-feminist narratives of empowerment in music video in the early 2000s. She is the author of What Happened to Girl Power? (2012) and co-author of Bite Me! The Twilight Saga, a Fantasy Space of Self-Transformation as Self-Realization (2014). Also, co- author of ‘Lynx: the challenges of lad culture’ in the 2009 Advertising Handbook. 3rd ed.
