I graduated from the University of Melbourne with a BA (Hons) in Linguistics and English and a PhD in Linguistics. I hold an MPhil in European Literature (French) from the University of Cambridge and an MFA in Writing from Washington University in St Louis. My research interests include diversity and inclusion in AI; low resource languages; and the intersections of lyric poetry, AI, neuroscience, language and philosophy. I am the author of two award-winning poetry collections, Event (Salt, 2007) and Interval (UQP, 2018), and three limited edition chapbooks: Here Hear (Life Before Man, 2022), Aftermarks (Rare Objects Series: Vagabond Press, 2012) and Alice Missing in Wonderland and Other Poems (Picaro Press, 2008). A third poetry collection, Circadia, is forthcoming from UQP in early 2024. My awards include the Kenneth Slessor Poetry Prize for Interval and the Peter Porter Poetry Prize (2006, 2011). My poems have served as lyrics in musical compositions including Jane Stanley’s ‘14 Weeks’ for the Glasgow School of Art Choir Composeher project (2023), ‘The Indifferent’ for the Hermes Experiment (Delphian Records, 2024), Andrew Ford’s ‘Isolation Hymn’ (2021), and Mastaneh Nazarian’s ‘Aubade’ (2019). I am currently writing a book about AI and human data.
