Joshua A.T. Fairfield

Josh Fairfield is a legal scholar, technology law expert and a professor at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. Josh is also the director of the AI Legal Innovation Strategy at the school. He is an author of two books on the intersection of law and technology, including Runaway Technology: Can the Law Keep Up? He is working on his third book.

Josh is fascinated by the impacts of technology on our human systems, especially our social systems and is convinced that the rule of law is a critical tool for limiting the damage that comes from letting progress run un- checked. He is a passionate advocate the democratisation and transmission of knowledge, and breaking apart complex problems, which is what drew him to teaching. Josh is a trusted expert witness, engaging conference and workshop speaker and has consulted privately in the USA, Germany, France and New Zealand.
