- Professor of Ocean Sciences, Georgia Institute of Technology
Dr. Joseph Montoya is a Professor of Ocean Sciences and Director of Georgia Tech's School of Ocean Science and Engineering. His areas of research include nutrient and stable isotope biogeochemistry, plankton biology, and oil impacts in offshore ecosystems. Dr. Montoya's lab brings together biological oceanographers and biogeochemists interested in the ways that biological systems interact with their chemical and physical environment in oceanic ecosystems. Much of its work focuses on the movement of nitrogen and carbon through planktonic ecosystems, and it has a strong focus on the role of nitrogen fixation in supporting planktonic production.
