Research Associate, Animal Physiology and Neurobiology, Department of Biology, KU Leuven, Belgium

Secondary affiliation: Researcher, Centre for Asian Area Studies, Rikkyo University, Tokyo, Japan

Joost works on the interface of biology and culture. He is studying the biocontrol potential of the Asian weaver ant (Oecophylla smaragdina). This ant also serves as a culturally valued food in Northeastern Thailand. Hence, Joost is investigating a dual-production system that is ecologically and socially sustainable.
