Jonathan Wynn is Professor of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He works at the intersection of urban and cultural sociology.

He has written three books, The Tour Guide: Walking and Talking New York (2011, University of Chicago Press, Fieldwork Encounters and Discoveries Series); Music/City: American Festivals and Placemaking in Austin, Nashville and Newport (2015, University of Chicago Press); and co-authored, The City and the Hospital: The Paradox of Medically Overserved Communities (2023, University of Chicago Press). His work has been published in many academic journals, and he has written op-eds for The Guardian, Salon, CNN, and The Washington Post. He also wrote a novel in 2025, called The Set Up (Belt Publishing).
