John Weigand is Professor Emeritus of Architecture and Interior Design at Miami University, having served as Interim Dean in Miami’s College of Creative Arts (2022-24), Associate Dean (2015-22), and Department Chair (2006-15). After earning the Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois, he worked professionally as an architect in Chicago before coming to Miami in 1995 to conceptualize a new degree program in Interior Design aligned with Miami's existing BA in Architecture.

In his administrative roles, Weigand has both developed and negotiated multiple curriculum initiatives, and more recently headed up a university strategic planning effort to explore ‘flexibility in the curriculum’ (2024). Research has focused on commonality and distinction in the knowledge base among the various design disciplines, and more recently on distinct and shared knowledge across the arts curriculum. He has been invited to consult on curriculum development at multiple universities.

John has served on the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) National Board of Directors as well as the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Ohio Board of Directors and AIA Ohio Foundation, during which time he served as AIA Ohio President in 2018. He was awarded the NCARB Prize for Creative Integration of Practice and Education in the Academy, for his work with collaborative, internet-based design, and was listed among DesignIntelligence's "25 Most Admired Educators of 2012."
