John Preston

John Preston is a Profesor at the Transportation Research Group, School of Engineeing, University of Southampton. He has over 40 years of experience in transport research and education. He has taught transport options on Economics, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Management and Planning courses. His research in transport covers demand and cost modelling, regulatory studies, land-use and environment interactions and economic appraisal and evaluation. He has held around 170 research grants and contracts, worth over £23 million, and has published almost 500 articles, book chapters, conference and working papers. He has successfully supervised around 50 doctoral students.
He is currently a Co-Investigator on the Healthy Low Carbon Transport Hub, funded by UKRI, and recently led reasearch on Personal Mobility on the Department for Transport funded Solent Future Transport Zone.
