John-Paul Byrne

Dr John-Paul Byrne is a Lecturer in RCSI Graduate School of Healthcare Management (GSM).

A Sociologist with expertise in qualitative methods, John-Paul's research explores the social structures underpinning two facets of the work-health interface: 1) how working lives and organisational environments impact well-being (the health of work), and 2) the processes and cultures that comprise healthcare (the work of health).

Throughout his career, John-Paul has led a range of research work packages; collaborated successfully with social scientists, healthcare professionals, regulatory bodies and policy stakeholders, and; contributed significantly to the administration and management of projects funded by the Health Research Board (HRB), the European Union and the European Research Council.

He is also the recipient of an IRC Postgraduate Scholarship (2012). John-Paul is passionate about the importance of social science in healthcare improvement, and the power of research, and research-informed teaching, to improve organisational conditions for the betterment of health globally.
