- Research Affiliate, University of Newcastle
John Clulow is a conservation biologist and reproductive technologist. He was an academic at the University of Newcastle from 2002 to 2021, and continues there as a Research Affiliate. His ecological work deals with understanding threats to wildlife and restoring wildlife populations impacted by threatening processes such as disease. In the laboratory, he is developing assisted reproductive technologies including sperm cryopreservation and in vitro fertilisation protocols for wildlife species, along with colleagues and research students. He is an advocate for the development of living cell repositories ("wildlife seed banks") for native wildlife where sperm, eggs and embryos of endangered species could be held as insurance against species extinction. He is a member of the Fauna Research Alliance and FAUNABank network which advocate for a national approach to wildlife biobanks.
