Johanna Wilkes

Johanna Wilkes, Ph.D. is a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at Lakehead University and a Research Fellow at the Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA). Interested in questions of international governance, public policy, and food systems, Johanna's research explores how international institutions tackle issues surrounding climate-resilient farming and sustainable futures.

Prior to starting her doctoral studies, Johanna served as a senior member of the policy team to the former Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Ontario Minister of Infrastructure. During her tenure in policy, she helped facilitate dialogue on policy and ways to empower community-led solutions. In 2024-2025, Johanna was part of the drafting team for the recent High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE-FSN) report on Building Resilient Food Systems, as part of the United Nations Committee on World Food Security (CFS).
