Johann Frederich Kirsten

I am an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Johannesburg, specialising in economic development, inequality, well-being, and environmental economics. I hold a PhD in Economics and have published peer-reviewed research on topics including subjective well-being, corruption, social cohesion, social class, inequality perceptions, climate risk, and pro-environmental behaviour in African contexts. My work draws extensively on large survey datasets such as Afrobarometer, ISSP, Gallup, and the World Values Survey, with a strong focus on policy-relevant analysis. I regularly contribute to public debate through media commentary on South African and global economic issues, including fiscal policy, inequality, and development challenges.
