Johan Brosché is Associate Professor (Docent) in Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University and an expert on Sudan and South Sudan, which he has studied for more than 20 years. His research focuses on civil war, the causes of peace, political violence, and civilians’ experiences of armed conflict. He currently leads three research projects on older people in war, the issues driving civil wars and their resolution, and the dynamics of restraint in civil war. His most recent book, co-authored with Kristine Höglund, is Africa’s Peace Puzzle: Intrastate Peace in Malawi, Zambia and Botswana (Oxford University Press, forthcoming 2026).
