• Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience, UNSW

Joel Pearson is a professor of psychology and neuroscience at UNSW Sydney, where he is Founder and Director of Future Minds Lab and Deputy Director of the university's AI institute. He has spent twenty years studying how human brains process uncertainty, make decisions, and adapt to change, and is ranked the world's number one researcher in mental imagery and aphantasia, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications and more than $16 million in competitive research funding. His book The Intuition Toolkit (Simon & Schuster, 2024) is being translated into six languages.

In 2024, he created the discipline of Neuro-Futurism: the science of predicting how technological change will impact human minds and designing interventions before the damage arrives. He leads Australia's national response to AI disruption, hosts a weekly ABC Australia radio show. His pioneering research has significantly altered our understanding of intuition, the human imagination, aphantasia, and the psychological impact of AI on humanity. He is now helping companies prepare for the disruptive change of the AI revolution.
