My name is Dr. Joel Amegboh. I am an Assistant Professor of African Security Studies at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, where I oversee academic initiatives focused on national security strategy development and security sector resource management across Africa. My work emphasizes strengthening whole-of-government strategic planning and aligning security policies with national development priorities in complex and evolving security environments. I have advised multiple African governments, including Zambia, Botswana, Ghana, Liberia, Niger, and Madagascar, on the development of National Security Strategies, and I have delivered senior-level instruction at defense and staff colleges in Ghana, Tanzania, and other professional military education institutions. Previously, I served with the United Nations in the Departments of Public Information and Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. My research focuses on national security strategy, civil–military relations, security sector governance, and the security-development nexus in fragile and conflict-affected settings. I hold a Ph.D. from George Mason University and am a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
